Wyoming Area

plans scholarship

information night

Wyoming Area School District is holding its annual Scholarship Information Night for parents and students at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the high school cafeteria. Eleventh and 12th grade students and their parents are urged to attend this information night. The program also is open to all Wyoming Area High School students and their parents.

The program will include a presentation highlighting the various scholarships offered to seniors on the school website. Helpful ideas on how to present a winning application also will be discussed. Students and parents who have attended these programs in the past and who have taken the advice given and used it in the application process have been successful in obtaining scholarships offered to the seniors.

There is a wide variety of awards offered and the specifics of these will be discussed at the information session.

The scholarship program has been running for the past eight years and has been extremely successful and well received by the community.

Several new scholarships will be added this year to the 60 existing scholarships. Each new scholarship will be introduced and explained. In addition, at this year’s information program, a scholarship fair will be offered where several donors will be on hand, along with recipients and parents of recipients. Those in attendance can talk to all of these people and learn more about each scholarship and what the donors are specifically looking for in possible recipients. Past attendees have found this program to be very informative.

The ninth annual Wyoming Area Scholarship Celebration will be held Thursday, May 24, in the high school gym to honor the parents and recipients of the scholarships offered through this program and to honor and thank the donors. This celebration program has enjoyed tremendous success and has seen the number of attendees go from a little over 200 the first year to more than 460 last year. The ceremony is being moved to the gym this year to accommodate the continually increasing number of people attending.
