The New Year is almost here and that means it’s time for municipal reorganization meetings.

Jenkins Twp. has not scheduled their meeting yet. However, Pittston Twp.’s reorganization meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2.

The meeting will be held at the municipal building, 421 Broad St., Pittston Twp.

All residents of the area are invited to come.

Jenkins Twp.

Christmas party

Jenkins Twp. is hosting a Christmas party for the children of the township. Children of all ages from the municipality are invited to the event, scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16.

It will be held inside the township municipal building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman.

Food and refreshments will be available all to get the children in the spirit of Christmas.

Pittston Twp. Crime Watch

The Pittston Twp. Crime Watch Group will no longer be hosting meetings on a monthly basis.

However, the Pittston Twp. Crime Watch Facebook Page has 345 people following it.

As a result, Frank Sciabacucchi is going to try and expand on the group’s social media. He also spoke with Crime Watch officials from neighboring towns and is trying to form a Crime Watch Alliance.

Therefore, from time to time, a Pittston Twp. Crime Watch meeting may be held, just no longer on a monthly basis. The frequency of the meetings is still unknown. However, registration will remain open to anyone who wishes to join.

Pittston Twp.


The monthly meeting of the Pittston Twp. supervisors is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, inside the municipal building, 421 Broad St.

Pittston Twp. wishes to remind its residents that the placement of any portable basketball hoops, sports goals or stands on any township-owned roadway is prohibited between Nov. 1 and March 31.

This is due to the township road maintenance trucks being previously damaged during snow plowing operations in collisions with these objects.

If you have any of these objects on a township road, please remove it.

Suscon sewer project

The Pittston Twp. Sewer Authority recently sent letters to the residents of Suscon about the installation of the new sewer line.

Residents can now begin hooking up to the mainline with a permit.

Residents can get a permit at the municipal building, 421 Broad St. Pittston Twp. Office hours are 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. You can call to schedule an appointment at 570-655-8747. All permit applications must be in by Dec. 31. Billing will commence on Jan. 1.

School taxes

The 2017 Pittston Area school tax bills are now at penalty value. The county and municipal taxes are now at penalty value until Dec. 31.

The Jenkins Twp. tax office will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. The tax office is now at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman.

However, if these hours are an inconvenience, appointments can be made by calling Jenkins Twp. Tax Collector Jean Mudlock at 570-654-9710.

Pittston Twp. Tax Collector Rita Timonte can be contacted at her home office, 12 E. Oak St., or 570-654-8807. Office hours are 5:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays.

Payments can be sent anytime in the mail. Postmark will be accepted as the payment date. If a receipt is required, please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope with payment to the tax office. If you are a new property owner and have not received your bill or if you received a bill in error, please contact the tax collector.

A letter to inform residents about 2018 refuse/recycling will be sent out next week. The letters will also inform the residents the 2018 stickers are on sale. For information, contact the municipal building at 570-654-3315.

The next Jenkins Twp. Crime Watch meeting is scheduled at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the municipal building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman. There will no be a crime watch meeting in December. For information, contact Chairman Joe Sperrazza at 570-654-3315.

The Jenkins Township Board of Supervisors will hold their meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10. The meeting will be held at the Municipal Building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman.

Jenkins Twp. seniors

Meetings of the Jenkins Twp. Senior Citizens Organization are held the third Tuesday of each month, with some exceptions. The next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the Jenkins Twp. Hose Company, 2 Second St. All seniors in the area are invited to attend.
