The new year is officially here and with this time comes a clean slate. A fresh start to try and make this year even better than the last.
Pittston and Jenkins townships are doing their part to cleanup, having scheduled Christmas tree collections.
If you still have your Christmas tree and wish to dispose of it, you may schedule a pickup by calling the Pittston Twp. Municipal Building at 570-654-0161, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Collections will begin Monday, Jan. 8.
Jenkins Twp. started picking up Christmas trees Jan. 4.
Jenkins Twp. Crime Watch
Jenkins Twp. Crime Watch meetings will return this month after a short break in November and December. The Crime Watch meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the municipal building, 46 ½ Main St, Inkerman. All members are encouraged to attend and new members are always welcome.

Pittston Area’s baseball and softball teams are raising money by hosting a designer purse bingo. The event is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 28, at Eagle McLure Hose Company, 375 Milwaukee Ave., Old Forge. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and bingo games being at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $25 each and are available at Joyce Insurance, 9 N. Main St., Pittston. You may also call Kristy Rosiak at 570-479-0031.
There also will be special games, a basket raffle, a bake sale, food and refreshments.

The Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance Association has announced its 2018 membership drive. Letters should be in the mail the first week of January. The ambulance association wishes to thank all for the support during previous drives.

Pittston Twp. Crime Watch
The Pittston Twp. Crime Watch Group will no longer hold meetings on a monthly basis.
However, the Pittston Township Crime Watch Facebook page has 345 people following it. As a result, Frank Sciabacucchi is going to try to expand on the group’s social media efforts. He also spoke with Crime Watch officials from neighboring towns and is trying to form a Crime Watch Alliance.
From time to time, a Pittston Twp. Crime Watch meeting may be held at any time, just no longer on a monthly basis. The frequency of the meetings is still unknown. However, registration will remain open to anyone who wishes to join.

Pittston Twp. meetings
The monthly meeting of the Pittston Twp. Supervisors is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at the municipal building, 421 Broad St.

Pittston Twp. snow
Pittston Twp. wishes to remind its residents the placement of any portable basketball hoops, sports goals or stands on any township-owned roadway is prohibited between Nov. 1 and March 31.
Township road maintenance trucks have been damaged during snow plowing operations due to collisions with these objects.
If you have any of these objects on a township road, please remove it as soon as possible.

Taxes past due
The 2017 Pittston Area school tax bills, county and municipal taxes are all at penalty value. The tax collectors can no longer accept payments.
New office hours will be announced when the taxes for 2018 are sent out. If payment still needs to be made, they can be sent to Northeast Revenue at the Luzerne County Courthouse.

Jenkins refuse and recycling
Letters to inform Jenkins Twp. residents about the 2018 refuse/recycling are being mailed. The 2018 stickers went on sale Dec. 4. More information about the stickers and the collections is detailed in the letter.

The Jenkins Twp. Board of Supervisors will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the municipal building.
The reorganization meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the municipal building.
Jenkins Twp. Senior Citizens Organization usually schedules its meetings for the third Tuesday of each month, with some exceptions.
The organization will not meet in January or February. Therefore, the next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at the Jenkins Twp. Hose Company, 2 Second St.
All seniors in the area are invited to attend and new members are always welcome.
